Next weekend, I'm running our Kayak session on Manning Lake. The camp has 1 ski boat in the water.
The bugs are noticeable in the campsite but quiet during the day. The scouts will need to use the

3 Scout Camps in 3 weeks! Crazy?

Arrival at "Provo"- Baden Powell provisional. Tents are HUGE - patrol-size
with up to 8 scouts sleeping in bunk beds. A diverse group of more 30 scouts representing troops in
Alaska, NJ, NY, Conn, RI, MA, and even NH attended "Provo" on Week 3.
Thumbs up: free time, archery and sailing equipment, flush toilets, few bugs, and paved roads.
Thumbs down: Mess Hall food.

First Yawgoog, Next Carpenter, then Bell
Two of our scouts just completed a week at the Baden Powell Provisional Campsite at
Camp Yawgoog in Narragansett Council, Rhode Island. "Provo" is attended by scouts
whose troops are not attending summer camp that week. Unloved, these scouts form their own troop with
the Counselors in Training serving as camp leaders.
Merit badge and scout skill classes are held daily with free periods which our scouts spent
sailing, fishing, and swimming. The Yawgoog tally: 0 boo-boos, 2 showers/each, 0 fish, third place in sailing regatta,
4 merit badges and two partials, 1 lost scout shirt.
Next Carpenter and into the Lion's Den with the Cub Scouts of Pack 19!

3 Scout Camps in 3 weeks! Week 2.

End of camp and our scouts, serving as den chiefs for the "knights" of Pack 19,
are starting to look tired with another week of camp ahead - Bell.
And what happened to the Staff of Doom?
BIG Thumbs up: Mr. & Mrs. Paulsen and other adults, Staff, Knight theme, Mess hall.
Thumbs down: None.

Carpenter tests Den Chief Leader Skills
This summer's Camp Carpenter theme is Knights Times". Our two den chiefs also had
"theme roles" as "The Old Man" and young King Arthur from Monty Python's Holy Grail. Taling
charge of eleven "squire" Cub Scouts and turning them into knights of the Round (meal?) Table.
Training
areas included Webelos Woods, Archery, Marksmanship, Swimming, and the search for pirates at Pirates Cove.
The Carpenter tally: 1 boo-boo, 2 showers/each, 1 fish,
5 slushees/each, 2 bullseyes, 2 lost riding coconuts, 2 lost voices.
Next Camp Bell and the Patrol Method! Good-bye mess hall, time for some patrol cooking!

Aug 8-10, White Mts. Backpack - Younger Scouts
Scouts will plan the route, determine campsites.
They will make some good decisions and some bad decisions, too.
Adult leaders will assure safety and a fair hiking pace.
Most first and second-year scouts will have only done car camping previously, so
one or more meetings this summer will see that everyone is appropriately packed,
has broken-in hiking boots, and knows what to expect during the trip. Contact Mr. Popik.

Troop 19 to Visit the Great New England Air Show Sept 5-6
The USAF aerial Demonstration team AKA
"The Thunderbirds" will be the feature
attraction at this year's
Great New England Air Show. The show dates are September 6 & 7
and the location is Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, MA.
At this point, those attending from Troop 19 will camp out
in the area on Friday evening Sept 5, attend the air show on Saturday the 6th, and
returning to Nashua that evening. FREE parking, admission, and camping. Also
a chance to work on aviation merit badge with Mr. Michael Howe.
For those of you that have never been to an air show this is a great opportunity
to see lots of action in the sky. There will be aerial demonstrations by front line
combat aircraft including the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the AV8-B Harrier. The B-2 Spirit
is also on the schedule for a fly by. Prepare to see stunt planes whipping themselves
around the sky as well as precision parachute jumping by the US Army's Golden Knights.
There will also be a combined arms pyrotechnic demonstration and Lee Shockley's 300 mph
jet will race a stunt plane.
Because of the large crowds (>100,000) at air shows we need to have a high ratio
of adults to scouts in attendance.
Please send an email to Rich Filteau before August 1 so we can move forward
with planning this exciting event. September is a busy month for the troop and we
will be having a regular troop campout later in that month. We are also looking for
a scout to help plan and communicate this activity with the troop youth. Volunteers
please contact Mr. Filteau .
