Cast Iron Crew Repairs Sled

Broken Sled
After  Shown here in no-snow configuration Troop 19 Indy Car Improvements include a stronger suspension and a clear Troop 19 marking. Unfortunately, the Cast Irons did not carefully read the Klondike specs which state the sled may be no longer than 6 feet!
Would you believe ... the Cast Irons have not fixed their sled yet?

IRVING, Texas (January 11, 2010) – The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) announced today that they are teaming up to promote family fun and education through a new BSA IndyCar. Scouts can experience the BSA’s No. 19 IndyCar throughout the 17 race IndyCar® Series 2010 schedule of events which includes Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen,NY and the Indianapolis 500. Our 100th celebration coincides with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Centennial Era celebration. The track opened in 1909, a year before the Boy Scouts of America was founded.
The No. 19 car will help commemorate the 100th anniversary of the BSA. The BSA and DCR plan to utilize the high-tech nature of Indy cars as a platform to promote science, technology and math to those involved in Scouting.
This program comes to the BSA at no cost. Funding is provided through the philanthropic efforts of Dale and Gail Coyne.
For more info visit the Dale Coyne Racing website or the National BSA website.

This is a great first aid skill to learn and consequently, is a prerequisite for many merit badges and Wilderness First Aid. Class size is limited to ten scouts and requires attendance on BOTH nights.

Feb 6Klondike Derby

Klondike Derby Feb 6, Keep the Trophy!
Klondike Derby 2007 2007 Patriot's Patrol were Klondike Champions. All members are all now in college, some still serve as Troop 19 assistant scoutmasters. Klondike Derby 2009 Patriot's Patrol 2009 Champions. (Everett missing from photo)

Patrols repair sleds and practice your scout skills and patrol method. This is the real event! Remember, last year Troop 19 was Klondike Derby Champion!
The Klondike Derby pits patrol against patrol in a series of cold weather challenges to patrol leadership and scout muscle, skills, and spirit - the Patrol Method! Scouts pull an equipment-laden sled of their own making to as many challenges as they can before the event ends in mid-afternoon. At each challenge completed, a patrol earns points on it's performance. The patrol earning the highest total points takes home the Klondike Trophy for their troop. Troop 19 has won the Klondike trophy many times in the past, as already mentioned last year, (click here for photo of 2009 Champions) but also three years ago (click here for photos of 2007 Champions).
Winning patrol leaders have READ the Klondike Derby PL Guide (click here) prior to LEADING their pre-Klondike Derby patrol meetings! Will your patrol sled pass inspection? Where is your patrol sled...under maybe a foot of snow in the storage yard? Does your sled have a patrol flag mounted with patrol and Troop name displayed? What first-aid gear is needed? Does your patrol have all other required gear, like tinder and kindling? Does your patrol have a good, quick hot lunch so they will score well? Who is bringing what? Read more in the Klondike Derby PL Guide (click here). BE PREPARED.
Strong patrols win and a strong patrol has ALL members pulling the sled and helping at each challenge. Let's keep the trophy here with Troop 19!
Klondike Derby permission slips (click here) are due Tuesday Jan 26.
Klondike Derby 2009 2009,Rapid Roadrunners Patrol came in 9th. Klondike Derby 2009 2009,Foraging Frontiersmen Patrol tied for 3rd.
