Scoutmaster Weekly Update          July 14, 2008

Tuesday Night Meeting

Troop 19 will be meeting at Max’s Mini Golf in Tyngsboro from 7pm to 8:30pm.  Please wear a T-19 T-shirt if you have one.  Activities include mini-golf, batting cages, and a golf driving range.

Congratulations to the Woodward Family!

The Woodward family completed the last of the 48 White Mountain four thousand foot mountains this last weekend.  Their final hike Saturday was 14.7 miles and included Wildcat D, Wildcat, Carter Dome, South Carter and Middle Carter Mountains.  The family got their start in 2003 on the Troop 19 backpack shakedown hike to Hancock and South Hancock.  They also completed Passaconaway and Mount Isolation as Troop 19 backpack hikes.  To complete all the mountains took 30 days of hiking and about 295 miles over the last 6 years.  Completing the list makes you eligible to join the 4000 footer club, a club started to get people to visit seldom climbed peaks in New Hampshire (www.amc4000footer.org).

Congrats to Jim, Lora, Everett and Ellen! A great accomplishment for your entire family!!  It is great to have such a wonderful activity that can be shared by the entire family and a “life sport” that everyone can participate in for many years.

I know we have several Scouts that have “bagged peaks” (peak bagging) in the White Mountains.  We will try to keep records of peaks climbed and miles hiked to recognize those that are working toward this goal.

Who is going backpacking on August 8 – 10th?

It is time to start thinking and planning to attend this great hike in the White Mountains. More information will be released shortly, in the interim mark you calendar to attend.
